Split Rock Lake House

Candlewood Lake, Connecticut

This new home is built into a steep hill overseeing Candlewood Lake. Strong stone piers and stone-clad retaining walls support this cottage-feel home clad with live-edge wood siding. The landscape is pulled inside through oversized windows and transoms overlooking the water.

Walk-out guest bedrooms at the lower level enjoy views, shade, and protection from the rain. Living space, kitchen, dining, and master bedroom on the main level spill out to outdoor living rooms on cable-railed decks. The site’s steep grade brought structural challenges but offered opportunities: gorgeous stone walls celebrate gardens - flowers, veggies, and herbs, along with ornamental trees and plantings. Every room has a view, and every space feels friendly and welcoming at Split Rock.
